One lady told us she ‘would love it to be offered on a prescription.’ The laughter and smiles didn't stop when the session ended - lots of happy chatter about an afternoon well spent.” Participant: Pat, a 93-year-old who attended a session at the Whitton centre, left the session beaming. She shared, "I've enjoyed it immensely; I laughed all my troubles away and I came out all peaceful and happy. I’m looking forward to coming again. It spurred me on to keep going and enjoy life. Laughter is the best positive vibe you can have, thank you so much.” Additional Experiences: Barnes Green Centre: Spirits were high as the 20 participants playfully mingled, chanting “Ho, Ho, ha, ha, ha,” with spontaneous giggles erupting across the room. One gentleman commented it was “A feet off the ground happy experience,” while another lady expressed, “I really enjoyed the session today. I was feeling a bit down this morning and, thank you so much.” Relaxation: Participants felt more relaxed and cheerful after the session. One shared, “I felt relaxed and cheerful after the session,” and another mentioned feeling “so much better” afterward. Impact: The sessions demonstrated how laughter emerged as a powerful tool to enhance emotional well-being and promote social interaction. Participants felt like they were getting “three classes for one - mindfulness, chair exercise, and laughter,” with Jaycee, the facilitator, making everyone feel at ease with her messages of positivity and encouragement. Statistics: More than 2 million people in England over the age of 75 live alone, and more than a million older people say they go over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbor, or family member. This highlights the critical need for social connection and activities like Zen Laughter to combat loneliness and improve mental health. 🗒️ Answer This expanded case study showcases the profound positive impact of Zen Laughter's workshops on older adults in the Age UK Richmond community.
